The world of television shows no sign of slowing down. We’ve got an exciting batch of stories for you this week, from teasers for a returning much-loved show, to casting news for upcoming projects that are yet to make their premiere!
HBO Max’s Green Lantern cast details revealed
Greg Berlanti's 10-episode Green Lantern series on HBO Max has found its Guy Gardner, in the shape of American Horror Story actor Finn Wittrock.
Described as a "hulking mass of masculinity" and "an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism" in a report from Variety, it is unknown just how much of the show Gardner will be a part of; but we're sure Wittrock will bring some real gravitas to the character.
The Green Lantern will also include Golden Age Green Lanter Alan Scott, as well as the likes of Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. Further cast details are expected as the summer rolls on.
Matt Smith joins Game of Thrones spinoff cast
Matt Smith has been announced as the actor to step into the shoes of Daemon Targaryen in Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. The news has been met with a lot of division however, with some fans suggesting he's not the right fit for the role.
We’ve seen reactions like this from hardcore fanbase members in the past, such as when Ben Affleck was announced as Batman, but the real proof will be in the pudding; aka when House of the Dragon actually makes it to the small screen and we can watch Smith’s performance.
The crux of the issue is that the character is based on one already written into lore by author George R. R. Martin, and so those who have had a vision of what he should look like in their head for some time will feel they have the luxury of being able to say who should and shouldn’t be cast in the show.
Those final decisions however, of course rightly lie with the casting directors, showrunners and writers.
Riverdale return delayed to August
Following the Season 5 mid-season finale back in March, Riverdale was expected to make a comeback in July. It will now however be pushed back to August 11th, with at least nine more episodes to see this season out. That means the show is expected to wrap in October; unless there are further breaks scattered through so that the season is drawn out to the end of 2021.
The start of Season 5 saw our favourite characters following a seven-year time jump. As they are all drawn back to their titular home town, they begin to realise that the mysteries of Riverdale did not leave with them.
Fans will be disappointed to hear they’ve got another month to wait before we catch up with Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead, but hopefully the team will ensure it’s all worthwhile.
New Dexter teaser showcases Michael C. Hall
The ninth season of Dexter will revive the show after over a decade before it came to its original conclusion. Now, fans of the Showtime series have gotten their first glimpse at the titular character, played by Michael C. Hall, as he looks to restart his murderous ways.
Exactly how much he's changed - if at all - in the years since faking his own death and going off to live the life of a lumberjack in the mountains remains to be seen.
What we do know is that Jamie Chung has joined the show as a true crime podcaster, whilst Clancy Brown is to serve as the primary antagonist for our anti-hero. It’s going to be one heck of a season!
Top secret twist coming to Gossip Girl reboot
Showrunner Josh Safran has revealed that the upcoming HBO Max reboot of Gossip Girl will include a twist kept so tightly under wraps, that not even a slither of a hint could be given as to what it may be.
Speaking as part of a cover story for Cosmopolitan, Safran explained: "My hope is that we make it to airing and people don't know." That of course is still a couple of months away; Gossip Girl is expected to debut in July.
In this modern age of social media and oversharing, it’s extremely difficult for various studios and production companies to keep their project’s biggest, deepest secrets kept within the confines of the set. If Gossip Girl manages to do so, we’re sure millions will be tuning in to find out what was so important that it needed such secrecy.
