Last year (2021) was home to the release of Marvel’s Hawkeye TV series onto Disney+, which saw Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) join forces to investigate the Tracksuit Mafia, with a deadly enemy in tow...
A new behind-the-scenes image for upcoming spinoff series, Echo, has been revealed via Twitter, and gives a first look at the logo for the show which is seen on a clapperboard.
This not only suggests that production is moving forward as we now have a logo, but filming for the series is now underway.
Echo will centre on Maya Lopez, aka Echo (Alaqua Cox), a deaf Native American who was the head of the Tracksuit Mafia from Hawkeye. However, it wasn’t until the end of the show that Maya embraced her Echo side, as she stood up to Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), someone she looked up to, for ordering the death of her father.
In a post on Twitter, head writer for Echo, Marion Dayre, showed her excitement at watching the series’ director, Sydney Freeland, ‘soar’.
While the logo shown on the clapperboard in the newly-revealed image proves that filming is underway for the show, it may not be the final look, which only means more images and announcements are to come.
Maya was a brilliant character in Hawkeye, and Cox did a fantastic job at portraying her. The actress is both deaf and an amputee, as well as being Native American, which is a huge and wonderful step in representation in Marvel.
These traits of Cox’s allowed her to give a stellar performance as a determined and skilled character, which is why many Marvel fans are thrilled to be able to see more of her when Echo airs.
As well as Cox returning to now play a leading role, there are rumours that D'Onofrio may reprise his role as Fisk, and Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil/Matt Murdock in his own series, may even make an appearance.
Hopefully soon, Marvel will release more images of Echo, and perhaps even a trailer, so fans can get a good look at Cox in action.
Echo is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime next year (2023).
