Visit Jersey has launched a world first experience in celebration of one of the island’s biggest exports.
The Jersey Oyster Flight invites Shuck Buddies to take their love for oysters to new heights with a flight of 60 freshly shucked Jersey oysters for groups of five, available 14 and 15 September at Sumas restaurant.
Jersey not only boasts incredible beaches and scenic coastlines, but some of the world’s best conditions for farming oysters. With the third largest tidal range on the planet and a rich 6,000 year history of enjoying oysters, the island produces 1,800 tons of pacific oysters annually, fuelling the UK’s love for the delicacy.
Whilst delicious all year round, months containing the letter ‘r’ are believed to be the best time to enjoy them as these months fall outside of spawning season, which leaves oysters more time to develop a delicious flavour and texture.
The Jersey Oyster Flight shows visitors to Jersey how they can get ‘shucked up’ and indulge in the delicious fresh oysters available across the island by creating their own oyster flight experience, inspired by the popular wine and whisky flight format.
Louise Ashworth, Head of Marketing at Visit Jersey: “Jersey’s food offering is as fresh as our sea air and our delicious produce is at the core of the island’s culture. We encourage visitors and their Shuck Buddies to get shucked up the Jersey way and enjoy a slice of island life with a flight of mouth-watering local oysters.”
Trevor Le Cornu, Managing Director of Seymour Oysters added: “Jersey may be a small island, but we’ve got an abundance of fresh produce on offer and the famous tidal ranges give us the best environment for oyster farming. We want people to come to the island break and get stuck into a fresh and sumptuous Oyster Flight.”
