Today is National Kick Butts Day- so we take a look at how couples can motivate each other to do the things they haven't started yet but really should.
Join the gym- You've talked about getting fit for ages and yet you both still sit on the couch most nights watching TV. Go to your local gym tonight, sign those papers and get the induction under your belt!
Eat healthier- You have shelves littered with cook books, still you always opt for an oven or microwave dinner. Tonight is the night to pop to the shops, pick up some healthy ingredients and cook up a storm together. Then do the same- the next night and the next until it becomes a habit and you no longer reach for the oven chips first.
Change jobs- If one or both of you are in a dead end job- now's the time to start looking. Help each other to update your CVs, join some job sites and start applying.
Jobs around the house- If your décor has been getting you down; make a list of the items you need to give it a spruce up. Go and get them and make a plan. Even if it means buying something towards your new look every month if you can't afford it on one go- do it in stages and you'll get there.
Put things in the diary- If you've nothing on the horizon- start looking. There are plenty of things you can do in the run up to summer so start doing your research. It doesn't have to cost the earth, but if you fill up the diary there's no excuse to lie in and waste your weekends anymore.
Try something new together- If you've never found a hobby that you can do together, there's no time like the present. Take a dance class, go and sculpt a life model or join a reading group- whatever takes your fancy and gets you out of the house.
Do a night course- Even if you don't do the same one- it will give you both a new line of conversation. You never stop learning, so take the opportunity to absorb some new information for your own interest or to make you better at your job.
Tidy up- If your loft is so full it's threatening to come in through your ceiling or you have a garage that could hold its own car boot sale, put on those old clothes and start sorting. If you haven't used it in the last year you probably won't in the next one- start enjoying the joint space you have rather than filling it with clutter.
Reconnect with friends- If you haven't seen your mates or your family in a while- have them around for a meal or a few drinks to catch up. It will give you a kick up the butt to clean the house, put on your fancy clothes and your best smile.
Sort out your finances- It's easy to spend more than you earn or spend all of your joint disposable income. Sit down and work out your outgoings and your income and put a plan in place to start saving or to reduce your bills if there's a better offer elsewhere.
