Carla Bruni refrained from performing in public while serving as France's First Lady because she was not comfortable with the heavy security detail her presence at shows required.

The former model assumed the position after marrying then-president Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008, and although she went on to release her third album, As If Nothing Had Happened, that summer (08), she made a conscious decision not to tour to promote the music.

During an interview on U.S. breakfast show Today on Tuesday (25Jun13), she said, "It wasn't taboo (to go on tour) but it was just not so comfortable with security and I didn't want to impose that (on the fans)".

Her husband was forced to step down as France's leader last year (12) after losing the presidential election to Francois Hollande and Bruni admits she is enjoying having a little more freedom now Sarkozy is no longer a head of state "I like very much quiet life and music and family...

"It was a great experience (being First Lady) and a great honour as well for me, but I don't miss it".

Bruni is now preparing to stage a series of concerts across Europe later this year (13) to support her latest release, Little French Songs, and she's considering taking her baby daughter, 20-month-old Giulia, on the road with her.

She adds, "I wonder, maybe I'll bring her with me because I just don't feel good leaving her behind".
