We're all sort of reeling from that still. We reached out to the governor and asked them what we could do

Rock band The Fray are donating all the proceeds from their hit song Heartbeat to a relief organisation set up to help the victims of last month's Colorado cinema massacre.

Twelve people were killed and 58 others injured when suspected gunman James Holmes allegedly opened fire in a packed Aurora movie theatre during a midnight showing of Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises on 20 July.

The Denver-based group was rocked by the tragedy and the bandmates have decided to hand over all Heartbreak royalties to local charity GivingFirst.org in support of those affected by the tragedy.

During an appearance on U.S. breakfast show Today on Monday, frontman Isaac Slade said, "We're all sort of reeling from that still. We reached out to the governor (John Hickenlooper) and asked them (officials) what we could do and there's an organisation called GivingFirst.org, so we're donating all the royalties from (Heartbeat) to help out".

The Fray are not the only musicians donating money to the cause - rockers Motley Crue and Kiss pledged $100,000 to the survivors and victims' families last week.
