Sam Worthington is to star alongside Gerard Butler in heist movie 'Den of Thieves'.
The 'Avatar' actor has signed up to appear alongside Gerard Butler in the heist movie, which has been in development since 1998 but will now start shooting in Los Angeles and Puerto Rico in January 2016.
The heist movie follows a crew of notorious bank robbers who target the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles under the nose of a corrupt sheriff's deputy, and will see Butler - who is executive producer - play the thief figuring out the plan.
While The Wrap revealed Worthington's casting, they didn't give any information on the character he will play.
Christian Gudegast co-wrote the script with Paul Scheuring and, following a number of changes, including Peter Berg being lined up to take the helm, in 2008 it was agreed he would also direct the project.
Worthington was last seen in 'Kidnapping Freddy Heineken' and can next be seen alongside Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal in 'Everest' and opposite Brit Marling in period thriller 'The Keeping Room'.
He also recently completed work on 'Hunter's Prayer' - which doesn't yet have a release date - and will appear in the long-awaited 'Avatar' sequels.
