Battleship has stormed to the top of the UK box office, toppling Titanic 3D.

The Peter Berg directed sci-fi blockbuster took £3.7 million in it's opening weekend to comfortably see off the challenge from Titanic for the top spot.

The movie sees Taylor Kitsch return to the big screen as a Navy Lieutenant who, along with the rest of the U.S. Navy, have to fight off an alien invasion.

After just a week at #1 Titanic dropped just a single place to this week's number three while The Cabin In The Woods was new at three.

The Cabin In The Woods marks the directorial debut of Drew Goddard while Joss Whedon is on producing duties.

The movie took £1.4 million over the weekend, narrowly pushing The Hunger Games down into fourth spot.

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists was also down one this week as it dropped a single place to number five.

Mirror Mirror was one of the biggest fallers inside the top ten this week as it dropped three places from three to six.

21 Jump Street was down just a single place at seven while Wrath of the Titans was also down three at eight.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel continued to have a presence inside the top ten as it dropped just one place to nine. StreetDance 2 was also down one as it wrapped up the top ten.
