There’s nothing better than a quintessential British period drama, just like Cheerful Weather for the Wedding which features love triangles, disruptive family gatherings and a grand wedding at the end (or at least a promise of one!).
With the DVD and Blu-ray release of Cheerful Weather for the Wedding fast approaching, here is a selection of our favourite weddings as seen in period dramas:
Cheerful Wedding For A Weather (2012)
On Dolly’s (Felicity Jones) wedding day, with just hours to go until the ceremony, a young woman’s future is suddenly thrown into chaos by the appearance of a former lover.
With lavish costumes and beautiful English countryside, Cheerful Weather for the Wedding is a joy from start to finish in the grand tradition of English period comedy-dramas.
Pride and Prejudice (2011)
Sparks fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennett (Keira Knightly) meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class.
We see their romance blossom as they overcome their own pride and prejudice and an additional last scene shows the newlyweds outside of Pemberley showing affection for each other.
The Young Victoria (2009)
Starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend, the film focuses on the romantic courtship and legendary marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, possibly one of the greatest love stories in history.
The spectacle of a royal wedding wins over the public - what young girl doesn’t dream of becoming a princess?
The Duchess (2008)
A chronicle of the life of 18th century aristocrat Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, a royal lady popular with her subjects but stuck in an unhappy marriage to the Duke.
The Duchess’ wedding took place in secret as the bride was already something of a celebrity and her parents feared that a more public ceremony would be besieged by onlookers!
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet star in the captivating romance based on Jane Austen's classic novel of two sisters' search for love in strict Victorian society.
Colonel Brandon and Marianne Dashwood are joined in holy matrimony - joy, happy ending and loose-ends all tied up!
Cheerful Weather for the Wedding is released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download from 14th January, courtesy of Universal Pictures (UK).
