The Erdem SS13 catwalk

The Erdem SS13 catwalk

There are plenty of different fashion trends to try as each season passes, but for the Spring Summer 13 season there are five standout trends that we saw on the catwalks.

Designers showcased amazing designs and trends that could be translated for everyone’s personal style.

Chanel SS13

Pastel

First up we have pastels. We know that fashion is recycled through the years and it was only a few summers ago that pastel shades were taking over our summer wardrobes.

Once again, they’re back.

Pale blues, lemons, pinks, mint green, sorbet shades are perfect for a sweet and sugar-filled look.

But don’t think you can’t toughen it up either. Wear leather pieces with an ice cream shade or add some studs to your look.

Chanel of course showed off their signature boucle in pastel shades, and Erdem stuck to their floral patterns in the soft hues.

Gucci SS13

Colour

Not only have colours gone soft, they’ve gone the other way too and bright shades are must-have for the season ahead too.

Cobalt blues were shown perfectly at Gucci and Elie Saab. In fact the Gucci collection was made up of bold, bright colour block hues that have been a hit on the red carpet as well with plenty of stylish celebrities including Katy Perry, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Li BingBing.

Mary Katrantzou and Jonathan Saunders chose bold-coloured suits during their collections.

And Reed Krakoff chose to soften the bold orange hue with chiffon materials.

Pucci SS13

Eastern

Miuccia Prada began the Far East trend this season with her beautiful origami-detailed satin pieces, the embroidered detail added an even further lux touch to the look.

In fact it’s this embroidery that we’ve seen hit the high street too, adorning beautiful Kimonos – it’s the perfect option to try the trend.

Kimonos were big hits at the Emilio Pucci, Etro and Dries Van Noten shows.

Haider Ackermann’s masculine clothing had Eastern touches thanks to the belt and folded details on the pieces.

And Eastern prints dominated the Hermes, Fausto Puglisi and Aquilana.Rimondi collections.

Roland Mouret SS13

Monochrome

Monochrome has without a doubt been the biggest trend of the season so far.

It was back to basics for a number of designers who showcased the trend, paring back for this contrasted look.

Marc Jacobs, Roland Mouret, Jil Sander, Alexander Wang, Celine, Narciso Rodriguez and Valentino are just a small few who chose this colour palette.

Whether you choose block colours, stripes, checks, textures, it’s all about monochrome.

Dolce & Gabbana SS13

Patterned

As an offset to the simplicity of the monochrome trend we have patterns too.

Stripes at Dolce & Gabbana, chequered at Louis Vuitton, stamps at Mary Katrantzou and snake skin at Preen.

These are just a few of the patterned prints we’ve seen on the catwalk, there’s even more choice on the high street.

Everything from bold looks to the dainty ones – it all goes this season.

And it’s the perfect antidote for someone who doesn’t want to channel black or white.
