Ding dong the bob is dead. From this day forward forget everything you know about the classic bob. Dismiss precision, balance and a final look that has every hair perfectly in place – because this is one trend that has been truly turned on its –ahem- head.
Celebrities love it too. Zendaya Coleman and Hilary Duff both rocked the look at the Teen Choice Awards earlier this week and Dianna Agron has been sporting a bob for quite some time now – and we love how the former Glee actress always looks rockstar ready.
Session stylist and Creative Director at Daniel Hersheson, Luke Hersheson, coined the term ‘Bad Bob’ with the aim of transforming a traditional hair trend into a hot new hair look for this season and seasons ahead that will suit any woman with any face shape, hair type or lifestyle.
In fact Luke has already given actress Sienna Miller her own bespoke version of the Bad Bob complete with edgy undercut.
“This is a bob with serious attitude,” Luke comments. “It is imperfect, hacked into – there’s nothing precise about it. The hair is worn in a side parting with the front kept long, whilst the back is shorter and the hair is razor-cut into to create a super-ratty, almost chewed ends.”
The dictionary definition of a bob is to ‘cut the hair short and evenly all around the head’ which stylists need to ignore completely to nail this look.
Ask your stylish for a rough chop with blunt, hacked or ‘chewed’ thin ends, no accuracy needed – this will add texture, body and personality to the hair.
To style, prep the hair with Kerastase Spray A Porter from roots to ends and blast hair upside down with a hairdryer, or leave to air dry – either way use our fingers rather than a brush to style. To give this style some extra edge the next day, spray hair with Keratase VIP Volume in Powder and energetically run fingers through the hair. This is when the Bad Bob looks its best – think morning after hair that you’re proud of.
