We can’t get enough of podcasts here at Female First. That’s why every week, we’re reviewing our favourite one to binge-listen to.
The great thing about podcasts is how conveniently simple they are to consume – you could be driving, cooking, working out – they require no visual engagement. All you need is a handy device to listen on, and you can go about your daily life listening to whatever you enjoy.
From crime to comedy, history to health, there’s something for everyone in the wonderful world of audio programmes.
Our favourite podcast this week is Brexitcast.
Why: Brexitcast has been running since the Brexit negotiations began back in 2017 (in fact there have been 103 episodes so far), but it is our POTW this week because it might be the only thing that’s helping us understand even an inch of what on earth is going on right now.
The political whirlwind that we are currently in living in Britain can be confusing at times to put it lightly, what with the ever-developing stories and headlines to keep up with and a (huge) sprinkle of political jargon - it’s completely understandable if like us, you’re struggling to keep up.
So, as we count down the days until the Brexit is supposed to happen, we need this now more than ever to get our podcast fix and stay up to date on what feels like a really bad version of Noel Edmond’s Deal or No Deal, possible deadline extensions and everything else in between.
Who’s the host? For BBC Radio 5 Live, Laura Kuenssberg, Katya Adler, Adam Fleming and Chris Mason present the ‘geeky gossip’ show from Westminster and Brussels.
Laura is the BBC’s political editor – the first woman to hold this position. Katya is the BBC’s Europe editor, and has been in that position since 2014. Adam is the Brussels correspondent for BBC News (with an obviously focus EU politics) and a regular reporter on Politics Live, and Chris Mason is a political correspondent working for the BBC. So, it’s fair to say, when listening to Brexitcast you’re getting the most up-to-date, informative news from people with a wealth of knowledge on the subject.
What’s it about? Of course, it’s about Brexit. But what’s Brexit about? Allow this podcast to shed some light. All the latest on the House of Commons carnage, the Strasbourg stresses and withdrawal agreement woes.
Where can I listen? You can catch Brexitcast on the BBC Sounds app, Spotify, or head over to the website where you can get access to the blog, quizzes, and your Brexit questions answered!
