Peter Berg has dashed fans' hopes of a new film adaptation of TV drama series Friday Night Lights after the idea was met with mixed feelings from the cast and crew.

The critically-acclaimed show was spawned from the 2004 success of Berg's American football movie of the same name, which starred Billy Bob Thornton as the coach of a Texas high school team.

It was axed in 2011 after five seasons on air, but executive producer Berg previously admitted he would love to revamp the programme on the big screen, with TV stars Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton on board for the project.

However, he has since had a change of heart, telling, "There's not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn't. I've come to believe it's probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it's gonna happen".

Meanwhile, actor Taylor Kitsch, another star of the Friday Night Lights series, insists he would never have agreed to reprise his role as star player Tim Riggins for the movie remake.

Speaking before Berg's latest remarks, he told, "I'll just say no. No, period. I'm not doing it. I'm never gonna be in that movie. There was already a movie! And the show ended f**kin' spot-on. We're good".
