With almost a quarter of British women at risk of over-eating during pregnancy, Aptaclub have teamed up with chef Lorraine Pascale to launch their Eating For 2 campaign. Here, Pascale discusses the cause, and how women can look after their health when eating during pregnancy.
Please tell us about the Eating for 2 campaign and why was it something you chose to support.
The Eating For 2 campaign launches today with research conducted by Aptaclub all around nutrition for mums-to-be. Aptaclub a is a free online resource for mums to be with expert advice on nutrition and tips for how to eat well during pregnancy. I chose to be part of the campaign as I often get requests from mums as to what they should eat and how to eat it and as well as baking I love to make healthy, tasty, easy nutritious food.
Most people have heard of ‘eating for two’ while pregnant so does a mother to be need to increase her calorie intake while pregnant or is that a myth?
During pregnancy it is about the quality of the food other the quantity of the food, so Eating For 2 by increasing your intake is a myth. This is exactly what Aptaclub has set out to do with their new campaign - dispel these misconceptions.
Which foods are mums-to-be most confused about?
From the research, some mums to be have questions over whether they can eat things like eggs, shellfish, cheese with rinds and prawns.
Is it realistic for mums-to-be (who don’t have experience in the kitchen) to re-create the recipes you’ve created?
Yes it is realistic for mums to be to recreate the recipes which I have created. They are quick, have easy to buy ingredients and are really simple to follow.
What was your experience during pregnancy with Ella?
When pregnant with Ella, my GP advised me of the best foods that I should eat. I would have loved to have this resource then!
Are there any recipes which help with sickness?
These recipes haven’t been specifically designed for morning sickness but there’s some evidence that food containing ginger may help reduce nausea and vomiting. With Aptaclub’s nutritionists, I’ve developed blackberry and raspberry ginger yogurt pots which are definitely worth a try!
For those mums scared about putting on weight, do you think you can ‘diet’ while pregnant?
I’m not a medical expert so I cannot comment on this question. However, what I do know is, a balanced diet is good for everyone of all ages so it’s always good to try and have one as best as you can, pregnant or not. A doctor can advise if you have any further questions on this.
What advice would you give for pregnant ladies out there who might be worried about their diet?
I would say head to Aptaclub’s online resource to find all of the information for what to eat and what not to eat along with tips, recipes ideas and more. They will find everything they need there.
Tell us about your current nutrition? What is your go-to / favourite food?
I like to eat lots of veggies and protein. I have been travelling for all of the summer and it is lovely to be back home for a while so I can cook. I like to roast veggies to give them more flavour in the winter and serve them warm.
What is next for you?
I work regularly in the US, so I will carry on doing that. I am in the process of developing a new show and am just about to start a new podcast around psychology, motivation and mental health.

Blackberry and Raspberry Ginger Yogurt Pots
- Prep time: 3 minutes
- Cook time: 17 minutes
- Serves: 4
- 300g raspberries
- 300g blackberries
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 piece of fresh ginger, peeled and very finely chopped
- 1tsp rapeseed oil
- 100g oats
- 500g natural yogurt
- Recipe Allergens: oats and milk
- Put berries in a wide, medium pan with the ground and fresh ginger and 2 teaspoons of water and place over a low heat. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries are soft and mushy.
- Remove from the heat and leave to cool completely before serving.
- Meanwhile using some kitchen paper, rub a medium non-stick frying pan with the oil and set it over a medium heat.
- Add the oats and cook for 4-5 minutes, tossing frequently, until just catching colour. Remove from the heat and leave to cool completely before serving.
- Divide the yogurt, berries and oats among four bowls and serve.
