has pleaded not guilty to assault charges. The 26-year-old - son of rock legend Rod Stewart - entered the plea at the Los Angeles County Superior Court yesterday (03.07.07) following his alleged attack on a couple at a Hollywood Hills party on April 22.Stewart - who is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of throwing a substance at a vehicle and one count of vandalism - was arrested last month after being sued by Tobalus and Ericka Stein in May.The couple claim Stewart assaulted them with a brick before throwing objects at their cars and defacing their vehicle with graffiti. In addition to the criminal charges, Stewart is also being sued for undisclosed damages for assault and battery.Tobalus and Ericka Stein claim they were driving home when Stewart and some friends started "swinging their arms, punching, throwing bricks and other items" at them and their truck.Stewart could face five years in jail because he was already on probation from a previous charge of assault, for which he served three months behind bars.
His lawyer Peter J. Korn claims the lawsuit is financially motivated.
Korn said: "The alleged victims only named Sean Stewart as a suspect after hearing that Mr. Stewart was at the party that night and that the alleged victim had a financial motive to make these allegations against Mr. Stewart."
Stewart, who was ordered to stay away from the couple, is out on $60,000 bail until his August 6 hearing.
